Days of Olympic festivities - were days of peace and tranquility to all country. Ancient Greeks were playing an instrument of peace, facilitating negotiations between the cities, promoting understanding and communication between states, and establishing new trade deals.
Olympics glorify a cult of Man, cult of perfection of mind and body, the idealization of harmoniously developed person - a thinker and an athlete. Olympian - winner of the game was honored by fellow citizens, received monuments during his lifetime. He awarded gods by bringing honor to his city, and there were laudatory odes feasts dedicated to such a glory. Olympic hero rode in a chariot into home town, dressed in purple, crowned with a wreath. He rode through the breach in a city wall, and breach was immediately walled up so that Olympic victory got into town – will never leave it. |
